đď¸ Projects
NSW
The New South Wales upgrade of the Singleton Sewage Treatment Plant is underway, delivering major aeration, electrical and control system improvements. The $6.5 million project will cut energy use by 60%, reduce emissions and modernise operations, strengthening longâterm wastewater resilience for the growing Singleton community ahead of commissioning in late 2026.
NT
The NT Government and Larrakia Development Corporation will deliver 222 new homes in the Farrar West development near Palmerston. Supported by $25 million in federal funding, the eightâyear project includes residential, commercial and community lots, aiming to boost housing supply, infrastructure capacity and Aboriginalâled economic participation in the Territory.
QLD
CleanCo has withdrawn from the Moah Creek Wind Farm near Rockhampton, citing misalignment with its energy strategy, but the private developer will continue progressing the 60âturbine project with federal backing. CleanCo has instead committed to Windlabâs Kennedy Energy Park, while Moah Creek remains under environmental assessment and open to new investment partners.
A development application has been lodged for an 11âstorey residential tower in Indooroopilly, delivering 93 apartments across a consolidated 2,032 sqm site. The project replaces four houses and includes two basement levels, upgraded access, communal rooftop space and landscaped balconies, supporting higherâdensity living near transport and Indooroopilly Centre.
Dankav has terminated builder Groupline Constructions from the nearâcomplete 20âstorey Laani tower at Mermaid Beach, citing repeated delays, resourcing issues and alleged subcontractor payment problems. The dispute has escalated to the Supreme Court. Despite contract termination, Dankav says works will continue to protect buyers, subcontractors and project delivery.
TAS
TasWater is building Tasmaniaâs largest pump station at Macquarie Point as part of the $380 million Selfs Point sewer upgrade. Works include a 23âmetreâdiameter pump station, 4.3 km sewer pipeline and major treatment plant upgrades, supporting 3,420 jobs and modernising wastewater capacity ahead of completion in late 2026.
VIC
Construction of the SECâowned Delburn Wind Farm in Victoriaâs Latrobe Valley begins in March, delivering 33 Vestas turbines and over 300 local jobs. The 205 MW project will supply renewable power by 2028, with major component deliveries in 2027, supporting regional industry and strengthening the grid as coal generation winds down.
WA
The Western Australian Government has awarded the Worley Arcadis JV a major contract to progress planning and design for Westport, the proposed container port at Kwinana. The JV will deliver marine and port infrastructure advisory services, supporting reference design, approvals and construction planning for one of WAâs largest future infrastructure programs.
Fortescue has begun construction on its first wind project in the Pilbara, the 133 MW Nullagine Wind Project. The development will install 17 turbines using Nabrawindâs selfâerecting tower technology, supporting Fortescueâs Real Zero strategy by supplying reliable renewable energy to electrify mining operations and complement the regionâs expanding solar and battery assets.
𧰠Construction Au Other
Permit to Work (PTW) systems help control highârisk construction and industrial tasks by ensuring hazards are identified and managed before work begins. Professional PTW training strengthens risk assessment, communication and accountability. Competent permit issuers play a critical role, improving safety, preventing incidents and supporting more reliable, compliant project delivery.
Boral has expanded its partnership with tanker operator PNJB, which will now deliver Boral concrete across Western Australia in addition to Victoria and South Australia. PNJB has invested in five new cement tankers for the WA network, supporting Boralâs strategy to grow its national footprint and strengthen regional supply capability.
Construction sites are strengthening social value by improving community engagement. Examples include Morgan Sindallâs dataâdriven socialâvalue tracking, Watesâ interactive âtalking hoardings,â and Mulalleyâs 4D sequencing videos for resident consultations. These tools enhance communication, reduce complaints and build trust, supporting more respectful, wellâmanaged construction activity aligned with CCS principles.
đ Innovation, Digital & Futuristic Technology
A new study shows nanosilverâenhanced concrete significantly improves flood resilience by reducing microbial degradation while maintaining structural strength. By combining nanosilver with bioâbased plasticizers, researchers achieved stronger, denser concrete with up to 92% less harmful bacteria, offering a sustainable material option for infrastructure in increasingly floodâprone environments.
ohn Holland boosted crane productivity at the Penrith Stadium Redevelopment by integrating the Vita Load Navigator, replacing taglines with precise load control. The system increased output from eight to up to 13 lifts per dayâa 40% productivity gainâwhile improving safety, accuracy and scheduling on this highâpressure infrastructure project.
Digital technologies are reshaping construction, with AI, IoT sensors, automation and digital fabrication improving energy efficiency and precision in prefabricated building. Integrated dataâdriven processes reduce waste, optimise production and enhance sustainability. As standards tighten, digitalâfirst manufacturing is becoming essential for delivering highâperformance, energyâefficient buildings at scale across Australia.
Researchers have developed a highâresolution 3D ultrasonic imaging system that adapts automatically to different concrete types using broadband frequencies. The technology overcomes scattering issues in heterogeneous concrete, providing clearer internal imaging for defect detection. This enables faster, more accurate assessment of roads, bridges and other structures, improving repair planning and maintenance efficiency.
Dubai has unveiled a prototype villa built using robotic construction systems, capable of assembling walls with high precision while cutting labour needs by 70% and reducing waste by nearly 50%. Developed with global tech partners, the project showcases how robotics, AI and modular construction are shaping faster, greener building methods.
đą Sustainability â& Environment
The Australian governmentâs Net Zero Plan sets an ambitious pathway to cut emissions. While it centres on renewables, land sinks, and hard-to-abate sectors, it points to biobased materials like timber in reducing emissions from construction and fuels but to meet urgent goals this decade, we must embrace faster biobased partners beyond traditional timber.
Australia is moving toward greater use of purified recycled water as a longâterm supply source, but national consistency is still needed. While robust guidelines exist, states apply them differently. WSAA says clearer national policy, sourceâagnostic frameworks and stronger public confidence are essential for wider adoption across Australia.
Australiaâs water utilities have welcomed draft national climate scenario guidance but say it needs clearer, more practical direction for realâworld planning. WSAA argues utilities require simpler guidance on data use, cascading climate risks and scenario selection to support longâterm infrastructure decisions, resilience planning and investment across essential water assets.
Sustainable building envelopes are shifting toward lowâcarbon, bioâbased and recyclable materials such as mass timber, recycled aluminium, advanced insulation and ecoâcomposites. These systems reduce embodied carbon, improve thermal performance and support circular design. Combining traditional materials with modern fabrication and smart technologies is reshaping how future highâperformance buildings are constructed.
